I like that the Mothman page labels the image as a visual rendition instead of pretending it’s a photo. That one detail changes how the whole case reads.

The 1974 press photograph holds up surprisingly well when you compare it to the 2017 documentary re-photographing of the same sphere. Whatever the object is, it’s consistent over forty years.
