Symington going from on-camera ridicule in 1997 to publicly reversing in 2007 is the part of Phoenix Lights that always stops me. Not proof of anything in itself, but a meaningful piece of social evidence.

Two events on the same night get conflated all the time. The 8:30 V-formation and the 10pm flare drop are NOT the same incident.

The redundant systems failure on the second F-4 is technically very hard to explain. I've spoken to two F-4 pilots, neither could replicate it.
